Module 1: I know you are but What am I?
Seriously? Another Project About Me? Why?! |
Yes - another project that's all about you. But that's a good thing! You get to show case who you are, learn and refine a few skills, and start this course with confidence. After all, you're the only one who knows who you are best.
In this module, you will create and prepare a resume, go through the process of applying for your social security number, conduct an interview, be interviewed, and create a community from scratch. You can complete all of these activities at your own pace. You will also have time in class to complete activities and assignments. |
Resume Building |
Task 1What is a resume?
In order to apply for jobs, you will need to write a resume - one that highlights your strengths, skills, and experiences. Employers scan and sort through resumes in order to find the most qualified and experienced candidate for the job they have posted. Your first task is to create and share a resume. Open Google Docs and create a NEW document from a TEMPLATE. Choose the resume style that you like best. Do NOT use the "Coral Template" - I will explain this in class. Once you've decided which template you are going to use, start filling it in with your information. This is can be a time consuming activity - use your time wisely. Information to Include:

Social Security Number |
The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number that you need to work in Canada or to have access to government programs and benefits.
With your parents, you can apply for your SIN. Ask them if you already have one before starting this process.

Passions, Personalities, Profiles, and professions |
Do you like all of that alliteration? I sure do!
Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? What you want to do with your life? Where you want to live, work, travel? Are you sure? There are very few people in this world who know what they want to do with their lives with absolute certainty. It is important for you in these formative years to explore the mass variety of options and opportunities available to you. It is also important to understand all the factors around you that may (or may not) be influencing you and your decisions. In this section, you will explore yourself, your strengths, your preferences, and what society, your family, your community thinks you should be doing with your life. Task 2: Your Personality
Task 3: Career ClustersEveryone has their opinion. Let's see what other's have to say.
In this section, you will take another two quizzes and do some reading about "what's best for you" according to other people. Let's take all this information with a grain of salt, because no one knows you better than God and you. Quizzes and ReadingsChinese Zodiac:

They make good scientists and programmers. They do well in medical fields. They also often are the actors who really become the character they are playing." Personality traits: Team-player, creative, calm, intelligent, sensitive Other possible job matches: Editor, illustrator, pediatrician
Complete Me:
After completing the two quizzes, and reading your Horoscope and Chinese Zodiac profiles, choose three of the sources in order to create a three circle venn-diagram that summarizes your results. It does NOT need to look like the one to the left, but definitely can. I challenge you to add a fourth circle to include all four sources. If you would like to do it by hand, you are more than welcome to. If you would like to do it electronically, go for it! Task 4: StoryCorps*Please download the StoryCorps app before you begin this last and final section.
Perhaps one of the biggest influences on our lives are our parents, culture, and society. For this task, you will be conducting three interviews:
Once you've completed your interviews, you will send me the links. We will figure out the best way to share the interviews. Before Interviewing Someone:
